Purpose of Elastics
Elastics are placed to specifically align one arch to another. Wearing your elastics as instructed will help you to finish your orthodontic treatment within the estimated treatment time. Not wearing the elastics will extend the treatment time and can compromise the ending result. Elastics will move your teeth in a direction that cannot be accomplished with braces alone
Specifics For Elastics Wear
Elastics should be worn 24 hours a day, except when brushing your teeth. Try to eat with them in if possible. Be sure to change them 3 or 4 times a day. If an elastic breaks on one side, change both sides so you will have the same strength all day.
Your teeth may become sore when you begin to wear the elastics for the first time. If you continue to wear them, the soreness will become less after a few days.
If you wear them for a while and then remove them, your teeth can shift back to their original position. This creates a back and forth movement and no progress will be made. This is not healthy on your teeth.
Plan ahead! Be sure you have them with you at school, at work, and on trips.
If you should run out of elastics, or your supply is getting low, be sure to call us and we will be happy to mail you more.
